                 HUMAN GENOME PAGE

The Human Genome is all of the Genes that make up our DNA.  A gene is simply a segment or section of DNA that carries a specific genetic information.

We have about 25,000 to 30,000 genes in every single cell in our body, EXCEPT the mature RED BLOOD CELLS, which do not have a nucleus.

Different genes have the information to make specific proteins, which basically perform 1000's of jobs in our bodies.  If a single protein is defective it can cause serious health problems or genetic defects.
