Welcome to the Circulatory System also called the Cardiovascular System.

  • The word "Cardio" means heart, "Vascular" means the vessels, that's because it is made of the heart and thousands of miles of blood vessels.

There are 3 main types of blood vessels.

  • Arteries:  Largest blood vessels, carry Oxygen - rich, or Oxygenated  blood from the heart to every cell

  • The only exception are: Pulmonary arteries, they Oxygen-poor, or Deoxygenated blood from heart back to the lungs

  • Veins: Smaller than arteries, carry Oxygen - poor blood back to heart and lungs

  • Capillaries:  Tiniest blood vessels where Oxygen enters into cells and Carbon Dioxide leaves cells back to capillaries

The 3 main jobs of the circulatory system include:

1) Transport Oxygen and nutrients such as GLUCOSE and Amino Acids

    to cells

2)  Carry waste products such as Carbon dioxide and ROS

(Reactive Oxygen Species) from the cells

3) Help regulate body Temperature
